🚦 Why does Tashkent need new traffic lights and support poles? Answers to the main questions

Today, many people are paying attention to the large-scale replacement of traffic lights in our capital. This raises a fair question among residents: why replace seemingly strong poles, and why not just upgrade the equipment in the old places? We will clarify the goals behind this modernization.

🧠 This is not just replacing lights — it is creating a “digital brain” for the city’s roads

We are implementing an Intelligent Transport System. This system turns every intersection from a simple “stop and go” point into a center that analyzes the situation and intelligently manages traffic flow.

Adaptive control: Traffic lights “see” the flow of vehicles through special sensors. If one direction is clear, the system does not waste time keeping the green light on unnecessarily, but quickly gives priority to the direction with congestion.

Priority for public transport: The system recognizes an approaching bus and can automatically extend the green light time to prevent it from falling behind schedule.

Safety: New installations are equipped with audible signals and modern call buttons, making the city more convenient for all pedestrians, including those with disabilities.

Why is it necessary to replace the support poles?

There are three main technical reasons why old poles cannot be kept:

Hidden communications: According to new standards, all cables (power and fiber-optic communication for central control) must run underground. Old poles are not adapted for such a “hidden” system protected from wind, precipitation, and unexpected failures.

Structural strength: A modern traffic light is a complex technological solution that includes sensors measuring traffic flow and video analytics cameras. For these sensitive devices to work accurately, vibrations on the pole must be minimal. New poles provide the necessary rigidity and eliminate errors in data reading caused by vibrations in old poles.

Durability and aesthetics: New galvanized poles do not rust and do not require annual painting. They fully match the image of a modern metropolis.

📈 What does this give to the city?

The main goal is to move from manual traffic management to a fully automated system. This will enable:

“Green wave” implementation: The system coordinates traffic lights with each other to keep traffic flowing with minimal unnecessary stops.

Time savings: Automation responds to traffic changes much faster than any dispatcher.

Inclusive environment: “Talking” traffic lights and convenient crossing buttons are the standard of a modern city.

In conclusion

We are not simply replacing old metal with new — we are transforming Tashkent’s transport system from manual control to a digital system. This is a complex project that would be absolutely impossible to implement on the basis of the old infrastructure.
